TÍA BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF A PHOTOVOLTAIC PLANT AT ITS CALACALÍ REGIONAL DISTRIBUTION CENTRE - AUGUST 2022.

Almacenes Tía is taking action to reduce its emissions by opting for sustainable alternatives of photovoltaic systems with solar panels to optimise energy efficiency. In this way, Tía contributes to the fulfilment of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals number 13 (Climate Action) and number 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy). The purpose of this project is to remain at the forefront of innovation while continuing to contribute to the fight against climate change by being a highly sustainable company. Thus, Tía starts this project in the Regional Distribution Centre (CRD) located in Calacalí – Quito, optimising and increasing efficiency and energy consumption. This system consists of 2,000 solar panels that will be located on an area of 5,000 m² and is expected to generate 150 MWh per year, which will replace the electricity consumption of the entire logistics operation of perishable and non-perishable products. The project entails a millionaire investment and had 3 stages (engineering, construction and execution). The engineering stage involved final designs, import processes and legal formalities arranged with electricity distribution companies. The construction process took approximately 6 months to start operations in June 2023.
